BIKE > FIT & POSITION
A bicycle should be an extension of the rider, not a machine with a seat that just happens to roll. Even the most high-end bicycle in the world is useless if it doesn’t fit the rider and compliment their riding style and biomechanics. Fit can be for comfort or performance, but is usually a combination of the two. Whether the client’s goal is to win their age group or category at a race or just avoid saddle sores, we can help. We‘ve fit more than 2,000 riders over the last 8 years, and we’re constantly learning, refining our techniques, and adopting the latest bike fitting technologies to provide the best bike fit services to our customers. We look at bike fitting as an art form, not a perfect science. It’s an ongoing process that involves about 80% measuring and textbook set up along with another 20% rider feedback, tweaking and analysis.
Most bike fit specialists fit riders in a static position. This is because the traditional tools of the trade - tape measures and plumb bobs – can’t take accurate measurements while the rider is pedaling. That’s why we use Retül, a dynamic motion capture data collection system which gives us the ability to see both the front and side views of a rider’s active pedal stroke simultaneously in 3-D. This let’s us analyze the stroke and assure all the riders body movements are working together. Having this information helps us accurately assess an individual’s biomechanics and serves as a guide in the application of our bike fit methodology. The Retül system is the number one choice of countless professional athletes and world champions, and it’s only used in the best-equipped bike fit studios in the world. There’s no system like it, and the results you’ll see from a Retül fitting session are amazing. For more information on Retül contact us or check out: www.retul.com
Fit Kit Systems has long been the standard in bike fit for the cycling industry. Their system has been around for more than 25 years and uses an ever-growing database of body measurements, rider proportions and biomechanical ratios to optimally position a rider on their bicycle. During a performance, or retrofit, we analyze and consider an individual’s specific body measurements, soft tissue and flexibility ranges, as well as riding style and personal preferences so that we can apply our expertise to set up the rider on their bicycle. From this starting position we take a look at the rider’s active movement and position, as well as their specific feedback and performance data, so that we can make adjustments to get them into the best possible riding position. RAD Cleat Analysis
The Radial Alignment Device (RAD) is a cleat alignment tool that enables us to find the rotational center for any pedal and cleat system. Any cyclist complaining of knee, hip or ankle pain can benefit from this service. Cleat alignment can be used with both fixed and floating pedal systems. Most pedal systems have between 7 to 15 degrees of float, which in turn actually yields only 3.5 to 7.5 degrees off of rotational center. Without proper alignment, a rider can constrict their movement against one side of the pedal or the other during their pedal stroke resulting in possible injury to knees, hips or ankles. KEO Cleat Fit Analysis
The Keo Cleat Fit System was developed by Look’s own Pedal Product Manager Fred Roudergues. The system helps a cyclist select the best cleat based on angular float and correctly position the cleat on the shoe. The Keo system consists of a specially equipped set of pedals that are used to measure and analyze each complete cycle of the pedal stroke over a 3 minute period at a regular cadence of 60-90 RPM. The system records values for both position and amplitude. The position value helps us determine, and place the cleat in, its optimal angular rotation and fore & aft position on the shoe, while the amplitude value determines which specific Keo cleat best suit the cyclist.
This system has been used successfully in the European market for more than a year now and reinforces the concept that while cleat positioning is only part of a complete bike fit, it’s an important one that’s still often overlooked.
